FAQS

Voice Lessons primarily focus on vocal technique to increase vocal range, build vocal strength, blend smoothly between head voice and chest voice, achieve mixed voice and belt coordinations, master multiple musical and vocal styles, sing high notes with ease, and eventually achieve technical and artistic mastery.

Vocal Coaching is primarily for singers looking to prepare for auditions, for performances, or for the recording studio. Vocal Coaching sessions focus on performance strategies, stage presence, musical choices, stylistic nuances, microphone technique, and learning how to sing different musical styles. Vocal Coaching also includes accompaniment, recording accompaniment tracks, repertoire book building, audition song selection, acting coaching, and the application of vocal technique to songs.

We teach students of all ages from 4 years old and up. Also, we teach students of all levels from beginners to professionals, and everything in between!

We are a vocal coaching studio that offers classes to improve vocal technique and application as a service. There is no audition required to partake in voice lessons with us.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide any set curriculum for clients that are looking for vocal certification. However, we are able to customize a schedule to certify the amount of time or lessons that clients have completed with us, if requested.

We are currently not qualified to offer student visas to International clients. However, International students are always welcome to take lessons with us with their tourist visa or any other type of visa.

This decision is completely up to you! All of our teachers are qualified and capable of teaching all levels of students, from beginners to professionals. That said, you are welcome to visit the Staff Page, and view all of our teachers and their backgrounds. This way you can get a better sense of whom you'd like to work with!

Here at NYVC, you are welcome to take as many lessons as you would like. You are not required to take any number of lessons while you study here.

While all voice lessons are individually tailored for the needs of each student, generally our teachers will begin with a brief discussion about any prior vocal training you may have had (if any), your vocal goals, and any additional questions. From there the lesson is usually divided into 2 parts: Vocal Warmups and Technique Exercises, followed by Material Song work. You are welcome to bring any material that you’ve been already working on, or that you would like to start working with your new teacher. With that in mind, the time spent on each of these aspects of the lesson depends entirely on the goals of the student.

You are always welcome to bring a recorder to your lesson! Many of our students use their phones to keep a record of their lessons. However, you are welcome to bring a recorder of your choosing.

All sessions must be cancelled by sending an e-mail to the New York Vocal Coaching Assistant (assistant@newyorkvocalcoaching.com).

The Cancellation Policy for all lessons with New York Vocal Coaching, Inc. is as follows:

Lessons cancelled or rescheduled with 24 hours or less notice: Full Lesson Fee
Lessons cancelled or rescheduled with 48 hours or less notice: $50 Cancellation Fee

* inquiries to reschedule are considered cancellations

All sessions cancelled or rescheduled within 24-hours of the appointment must be fully compensated. Due to high demand for sessions, appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48-hours notice will also be charged a $50 fee. New York Vocal Coaching and Associates respectfully request 72-hours notice when canceling or rescheduling appointments, but there is no fee unless cancellations are made with under 48-hours notice. Out of fairness and integrity to all teachers and students, please note that we can make absolutely no exceptions to this policy. This includes cancellations due to illness, weather, transportation problems, etc.

Clients are encouraged to understand this policy on a variety of levels:

  1. It Makes Teachers Better
Cancellation policies protect the time, energy, and devotion of hard-working teachers. This benefits students because teachers are better able to maintain a high level of passion, devotion, and energy to teaching and helping students achieve their goals. It is courteous to value teachers’ energies by giving them ample notice for cancellations and compensating their time when you cannot.
  2. It Makes Students Better
By placing importance and responsibility on high-level training and lessons, students maintain a deep commitment, strong work ethic, and understanding of professionalism. All New York Vocal Coaching Associates are professionals that have also been students for many years. We understand that cancellation policies sometimes are difficult and can even seem unfair or frustrating. Nonetheless, rest assured that every New York Vocal Coaching Associate has learned the value of treating lessons with deepest commitment and has respected their own teachers throughout the years by observing their cancellation policies. This is a very important part of showing teachers that their time is valuable. Respecting the hard work and time of fellow artists is paramount to being successful as an artist.
  3. It Makes Other Artists Better
Lesson times fill up very quickly. New York Vocal Coaching teachers can sometimes find their schedules fully booked 3 weeks or more in advance. There is also often a waiting list for times. Since this is true, a cancellation policy is even more important. Students often need sessions at the last minute for major auditions, recordings, performances, or opportunities. It is impossible to help students achieve success when cancellations are given with little notice. By striving to give 72+ hours notice for cancellations, students can help fellow artists succeed by allowing them access to unused lesson times that may be very important to them.

Your understanding of the Cancellation Policy is greatly appreciated. New York Vocal Coaching and Associates make great strides in providing a fair situation to all students. Please know that we care, love, and respect each and every student very deeply. Enforcement of the cancellation policy is not meant personally, but is simply a part of high-level studies in any leading New York voice or music studio. We encourage you to view it as such and also to read the thoughts above with our utmost respect to you, your goals, and your individual situation. Thank you again for respecting your teachers by following the Cancellation Policy.

Everyone has different progress rates. It all depends on your work ethic, the amount you practice in between lessons, and your dedication during lessons. That said, every lesson provides an opportunity to learn something new to continue your vocal progression. But the rate of your progression does ultimately depend on you. You are welcome to take as many lessons as you are comfortable with, based on our teachers’ availability.

We do offer gift certificates for lessons with our teachers. You are welcome to print these at home or email them directly to the recipient. Once the recipient is ready to redeem their lesson(s) they can do so by following instructions indicated in the email they received with their gift certificate.
