Singer Spotlight: Sofia Aurora Menegolli
Posted Wednesday, November 4th 2026 by Roberto Crippa
Sofia arrived to New York from Italy this fall on a scholarship to study dance at Broadway Dance Center.
She's a very promising Italian young performer, with a real talent that's hard to miss. Everything about her says she has a bright future ahead.
How did you discover your passion for singing?
My mom always told me that when I was 6 years old, I went to her and said, “Mum! I wanna sing!” She said that I was too young, but I really insisted, so she put me in a musical school and I started taking choral singing classes with older children. I went there, listened, and tried my best, and from that moment, I never stopped.

What’s something recent or exciting in your singing journey?
What is more exciting than taking singing classes in NEW YORK??
If I said that to the young Sofi, she wouldn't believe that.
I'm so happy to bring my passions with me wherever I go and explore them outside my comfort zone, and I'm very grateful to have found teachers like Roberto Crippa to grow and continue this journey.
What is an interesting or funny fact about you?
My love for singing and the musical world actually started by chance! I told my mum that I just wanted to sing, and one day I went to the musical school where I was supposed to have only singing lessons, but I got the wrong time and found myself in an acting class with older teenagers. The teacher allowed me to stay and take the class anyway, and from that moment, this journey began and has never ended.
What led you to studying at NYVC?
I always wanted to take classes at NYVC. I already knew that there were incredible teachers, and when I came here, my amazing Italian singing teacher, whom I really trust, suggested that I go and take classes at NYVC. Couldn't be happier to have followed her advice.
Who or what are your biggest musical influences?
Musical Theatre for sure. I always studied musical theatre and dreamed about Broadway shows, so singing and acting really inspired me, and it's the kind of expression I've always known!

What styles of music do you sing?
Broadway style as my very first choice, acting through song, and having a strong technique in order to express concepts and feelings are for sure the things that I love most. Then I try my best to be as versatile as I can, exploring different vocal styles and keeping my technique trained.
What is one piece of advice you’d love all singers to know?
Be kind to yourself. I think singing is deeply connected with our soul and our emotions. Sometimes I remind myself not to be so hard on myself and to always find the JOY and the FUN in what I'm doing, to remember why I started, and to stop comparing myself to other artists with completely different past experiences.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as an artist?
Actually, moving to NY is one of the hardest challenges ever.
Leaving everything behind at a young age, having the courage and strength to keep going every day, even when the bad days outnumber the good ones, and being my own number one fan every day is absolutely a very hard daily challenge. And I also think it's very difficult to keep our creativity pure and open in this difficult and competitive industry. It's easy to get lost.
What has been your greatest victory as an artist?
I'm very proud that every goal I've reached, I've reached by always being true to myself as a person. I've never stepped on anyone's toes or been unfair to anyone. I prioritize being a good person before being a good artist, and I actually think that makes me a good artist! So I'm very proud of that because when life gets hard or things don't go the way I want, at the end of the day, I'm sure that I'm a good person.
