Joining the ranks of New York Vocal Coaching will be Kacey Velazquez, our new Associate Vocal Instructor. Get to know about Kacey and her love of music below!

What are the main differences between New York and Nashville?

“In Nashville, there’s a very clear sense of community. It’s very easy to get connected. Big city but small town-feel! It’s known for blocks upon blocks of music venues, so it is truly music city. It’s made for songwriters! In New York City, it wasn’t always as easy to make those connections. “

When did you discover Justin and the NYVC Voice Teacher Training program?

“I came upon the program in 2017 when I wanted to explore my passion for vocal coaching even more. Being from New York, I had already heard of it’s wonderful reputation.”

“It was so great to hear that NYVC offered teacher training. It just checked all the boxes!”

Compared to your past music education, what was different about VTT?

“It truly teaches you how to be a good teacher. In college, you can learn all the pedagogy and technique you want. But to learn how to be a good teacher is important. And Justin comes at it from a spiritual angle. That made it special and unique.”

What excites you most about joining the NYVC team?

“I’m just thrilled to be a part of a community of passionate vocal coaches who truly love singing. Being around teachers and students that have immersed themselves in their craft and love their work is very exciting.”

And we’re excited to have you join us Kacey! Welcome aboard!

Take My Breath Away

Riddle me this: When is using more breath detrimental to your vocal health? Answer: When it isn't. Every breath you take... Not surprisingly, there's a lot of hot air floating around the voice teaching community concerning the use of breath during singing. Do you try to flutter the tissue dangling a daunting ten feet away from your mouth while trying to execute your Beyoncé inspired riffs? Or do you try your best to keep your steamy exhale from fogging up the mirror you're holding claustrophobically close to your mouth? Both of these I have been asked to perform in voice lessons, and in both of these I have succeeded in achieving new heights of light headedness.
