NYVC Singer Spotlight: Jacqueline Baxter hero

NYVC Singer Spotlight: Jacqueline Baxter

Posted Tuesday, July 22nd 2025 by Jamie Kaufman
NYVC's Jamie Kaufman had the pleasure of speaking with vocalist, producer, and classically trained flautist Jacqueline Baxter about her artistic journey, recent solo debut, and her work releasing music as “JAQ.”

How did you discover your passion for singing?

Music has been a passion of mine ever since I was a child. I have always loved singing, whether it was for fun or throughout school in my choir. My family is very music oriented, so growing up, music (and singing specifically) was something that always brought us together.

What’s something recent or exciting in your singing journey?

I recently performed live for the very first time! I had performed live before, but only with a group. This was my first solo performance.

What is an interesting or funny fact about you?

I am a classically trained flautist and a producer.

What led you to studying at NYVC?

My sister took lessons with NYVC years ago, and I had one lesson back then as well. After I started releasing music, I thought it would be a good idea to start taking lessons routinely to grow and develop as a singer.

Who or what are your biggest musical influences?

Lana Del Rey, The Weeknd, Raye, Twenty One Pilots (for storytelling) and M83 (music/instrumentation).

What styles of music do you sing?

I like to sing a variety of styles, but I would say I mostly sing pop and contemporary music!

What is one piece of advice you’d love all singers to know?

There’s a spotlight out there for each and every one of us, and we all bring something new and different to the table. Never try to fit into someone else’s mold or do what others are doing. Music and art are such creative and expressive journeys, and I truly believe that there is a place out there for every singer who wants it. Being yourself as a singer is your most valuable weapon or tool in this industry.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as an artist?

Overcoming stage fright (still working on it) and dealing with moments of self-doubt. I personally don’t really care what others think of me in the outside world, but living in a world where social media is the biggest outlet for an independent artist, I tend to catch myself doubting and judging my own content, which makes it difficult to put myself out there. I always end up posting anyway, but it’s an ongoing battle I face.

What has been your greatest victory as an artist?

Releasing music! Getting to create what I love and how I want it to be perceived has been an awesome and very rewarding journey. I love creating my art and sharing it with the world, especially with the hope that my work can connect with others in any kind of way. I love growing every day and continuing to create, no matter where I am, and leaving a trail of my art behind me.

Where can people find more about you and your music?

People can find more about me on any of my social media platforms (TikTok: @jaqbax, Instagram: @jacquelinebax, YouTube: jaqbax). I go live daily on TikTok and try to stay active on all platforms. As for my music, I currently have six songs out on all streaming platforms under the name “JAQ,” and there is a lot more coming soon!
