Evelio is a composer-lyricist and performer in the musical theatre. He’s lived in New York City for over a decade, and that’s a very long time.
He received his BFA in drama from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied musical theatre performance at the New Studio on Broadway. He received his MFA in musical theatre writing from the NYU Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, where he studied as a composer. He is the recipient of awards and scholarships from ASCAP, the Frederick Loewe Foundation, and the Shubert Organization. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
Some of his favorite credits as an actor include the Leading Player in Pippin (Henegar Center for the Performing Arts), and Sonny in In The Heights (Gallery Players). Most recently, as a composer-lyricist, he’s had his original work developed at the Naked Angels, Dixon Place, the Davenport Theatre, Goodspeed Musicals, and Joe’s Pub (Waikiki, Pompeii, and other miscellaneous words and music).
Evelio is passionate about arts education and, shortly after the Covid-19 pandemic, returned home to central Florida to work with seventh through twelfth grade students at his alma mater, West Shore Jr/Sr High School. Here, he created the original one-act musical Work Song, based on the experiences of young people during the pandemic, and produced in association with Brevard Public Schools.
Evelio is thrilled to join the NYVC/NYAC team, and hopes to be making joyful noise for (at least) another decade to come.
